Family: Ursidae

Small or medium sized lonely nocturnal animal. A good climber thanks to its long and strong nails. Usually black or dark brown, but lighter individuals occur. Diet consists of plants, bugs and larvae, smaller vertebrates and carcasses. Pair up in summer. Pregnancy lasts from 180 to 210 days after which 2 to 4 young are born in January-February. They stay with their mother for 1,5 years.
