Thirty fifth week
Last week the young common merganser, common shelduck, bar-geese and emperor geese were let out to the bird ponds with the other birds. Also three young pelicans are now in the outdoor enclosure with older pelicans.
Three young European hares that the keepers raised after they were brought to the zoo were set free on to the bird pond grass territory. The great cormorant that landed on the area a while back now decided to continue its natural journey and flew away from the zoo area.
Bukhara deer bulls were anesthetized on Monday and their ossified horn were sawed off. Caracal Naomi had her paw checked by the vets and her cub got its first vaccine on Monday. Cranes’ and storks’ feathers were plucked and the Sichuan blue sheep had their hooves whittled.
Young and energetic river hogs are trying to eat everything they can – they’re reaching below the enclosure fence and snatching all the plants they can get.
The Zoo calendar 2016 is now for sale in the souvenir shop and ticket offices.
